Abstract:
The Tubular Exchanger Manufacturers Association (TEMA) issued the seventh edition of its standards in 1988. In the new edition there is a section on flow-induced vibration that provides a recommended procedure for checking shell-and-tube heat exchangers for possible tube and acoustic vibration problems.
This report compares TEMA's recommendations with the HTRI vibration analysis procedures found in HTRI computer programs. The similarities and differences are highlighted, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of each method. Recommendations are made for the ongoing improvement of the HTRI Vibration Analysis Method.
