STG-16 Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop Methods for Longitudinal Flow over Low-Finned Tubes

Abstract:
This report compiles heat transfer and pressure drop correlations for longitudinal flow over low-finned tubes published in the open literature and compares them to methods used by HTRI for longitudinal window flow in shell-and-tube heat exchangers. Comparisons show that most methods predict heat transfer coefficients similar to HTRI methods, but that HTRI methods may underpredict pressure drop.
