STG-12 Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop for Two Immiscible Liquids Flowing in Tubes
In the past fifty years, researchers have published relatively few studies on two-phase flow technology for immiscible liquid-liquid systems. As with gas-liquid flow, two basic methods—the homogeneous flow model and the separated flow model—can be used to predict heat transfer and pressure drop. The literature methods reviewed in this report make use of both approaches.
Although correlating either method against available data provides acceptable results, the homogeneous method is more compatible with present HTRI software, which deal with a single fluid. A version of the homogeneous model using a modified Einstein equation to determine a mixture’s effective viscosity predicts the available literature data accurately and is recommended until new studies are performed.
