Abstract:
Our current methods for determining single-phase shellside heat transfer are based on literature sources and verified against overall performance data collected from the 1960s through the 1980s. To evaluate these methods using enhanced incrementation techniques in Xist™, we recently collected shellside single-phase data in cross flow using one plain tube bundle and three low-finned tube bundles in the HTRI Multipurpose Condensation Unit (MCU). We confirmed that the HTRI Stream Analysis heat transfer method predicts 97 percent of the new and previous single-phase data with an accuracy of ± 25 percent over a wide range of operating conditions.
