Abstract:

In the original development of the Stream Analysis Method, the seal rods were assumed to be the same size as the tube diameter. Further, one seal rod was assumed for each six rows in crossflow.

Since then, the computer programs have been modified to allow the number of seal rods and their diameter to be specified. However, the Stream Analysis Method does not handle the rod diameter properly; as the diameter is increased, the F-stream flow fraction increases rather than decreases.

This report describes a modification to the Stream Analysis Method that handles the seal-rod diameter properly. This modification has been tested against available research data. The modified method predicts the available data slightly better than the original method and exhibits the expected behavior as the seal-rod diameter is increased.
