RB7-3 The Katto Correlations for Saturated Boiling Critical Heat Flux in Vertical Tubes

A recent correlation for critical heat flux (CHF) for boiling in vertical tubes was reviewed and tested against HTRI data. The method has the advantage of covering a wide range of conditions by using a regime map to select the appropriate critical heat flux correlation. The resulting calculated values were somewhat optimistic when compared with the HTRI data for vertical thermosiphon reboilers. However, if a 0.75 factor is applied, the method predicts the HTRI data within +20 and -30 percent.
