RB5-1 Row Effects in a Finned Tube Bundle of Preheater Tubes with Zero Fin-Tip Clearance

Abstract:
Isothermal pressure drop and heat transfer measurements in finned tube bundles with 5/8-in. (15.9-mm) diameter preheater tubes were carried out in the HTRI Wind Tunnel. Bundles with 1, 2, and 4 tuberows were tested on an equilateral layout with zero fin-tip clearance. The 4-row pressure drop data range from 17 to 25 percent below the present HTRI correlation, while the 4-row heat transfer data are in excellent agreement with the predicted values. Both the pressure drop and heat transfer data show weak row effects; however, these effects are not predicted well by the current HTRI correlations.
