RB3-3 Improved Reduced Properties Correlation for Nucleate Boiling of Pure Hydrocarbons and Comparison to the Stephan-Abdelsalam Correlation

It was shown in HTRI Report BG1-1 that the HTRI reduced property correlation for nucleate boiling heat transfer was conservative when compared to new hydrocarbon data. The Stephan-Abdelsalam equation for hydrocarbons was found to predict these new data, as well as previous data, very well and was recommended. Since the Stephan-Abdelsalam correlation requires a large number of physical properties which may not always be available to the designer, an improved reduced properties correlation was developed which gives results within about ± 10 percent of the more complicated Stephan-Abdelsalam hydrocarbon equation.
