RB2-2 Shellside Condensation - Plain Tube (C5) Bundle Heat Transfer Data

This research brief describes data supporting condensation heat transfer methods presented in HTRI Reports CS-1 and CS-2. After issue of these reports, tests were made on an additional bundle with smaller baffle cut and spacing to determine effects of increasing vapor shear. Several fluids, including a condensable mixture and condensables with small amounts of noncondensables, were tested. Results are compared with predictions by HTRI Computer Program CST-1, Mod 1.0, which uses methods described in the above reports. Agreement was found to be very good over the range of conditions tested. No modifications of HTRI methods were found necessary due to these tests. Further tests are now under way using low-finned tubes.
