P-1 Capacity and Thermal Conductivity of Oils
Generalized heat transfer correlation work requires accurate physical properties data for the test fluids. Specific heat and thermal conductivity are particularly difficult to obtain for hydrocarbon mixtures while the presently available predictive equations produce frequently only approximate results.
We contracted with Prof. F. Lockhart of USC to measure for us a complete set of physical properties data on five (5) oils. These data points are compared with other selected data from the literature and evaluated against the presently recognized predictive methods.
Critical appraisal of the probable accuracy of the estimation techniques and the status of the available data, clearly emphasizes the need for a larger systematic test program in this field.
