Abstract:
A new method in Xfh® 4.0 accounts for the direct radiation energy transfer from the radiant section to the convection section of box (cabin) heaters. The method uses an effective sink plane to model the arch volume, the volume between the flue gas exit of the radiant section and the first row of convection shock tubes. To calculate the radiative energy transfer to the effective sink plane, the method uses the existing radiant section zoning technique as well as a modified convection section algorithm that accounts for the energy absorbed by the shock tubes.
