BX-1 Horizontal Thermosiphon Reboiler Heat Transfer Performance with "E," "G," and "X" Shell Configurations

Heat transfer data are presented for the horizontal thermosiphon reboilers with TEMA "E," "G," and "X" shell configurations tested by HTRI during the initial phase of the shellside flow boiling research program. Performances of the horizontal thermosiphon reboilers are compared with the previous HTRI data for the vertical thermosiphon and kettle reboilers, and a dramatic improvement is seen for low temperature differences. This is especially true when comparing with the vertical tubeside thermosiphon because of the more effective use of available static head obtained by the horizontal shellside thermosiphon.
