Certain designs can lead to the initiation and propagation of instabilities in thermosiphons. This report reviews mechanisms that can cause two-phase flow instability in thermosiphon loops, including unstable operating mechanisms experienced during startup and turndown conditions, and provides recommendations for addressing these operational problems.
